Is the proton radius really what we measured?

Category: Physics

Status: Queued

Different methods — electronic hydrogen spectroscopy versus muonic hydrogen — gave different values for the proton's charge radius, a discrepancy known as the 'proton radius puzzle' (2010).

Recent measurements have converged on the smaller (muonic) value, but the reasons for the original disagreement remain not fully understood, and new precision tests continue.
