Who were the Sea Peoples?
Category: History
Status: Queued
Around 1200 BCE, multiple Bronze Age civilisations of the Eastern Mediterranean collapsed almost simultaneously. Egyptian sources describe attacks by groups collectively called the 'Sea Peoples', but their origins, motivations and identities remain disputed.
Drought, internal revolt, system fragility, and migration have all been proposed as causes of the Late Bronze Age collapse. The picture is still emerging.
