Can large-scale CO2 removal close the climate budget?

Most IPCC scenarios that limit warming to 1.5°C rely on hundreds of gigatons of net-negative CO2 emissions later this century. Whether direct air capture, biochar, enhanced weathering and ocean methods can scale that far is unproven.

Open questions include energy and land requirements, cost trajectories, permanence of storage, and impacts on ecosystems.
