What grounds mathematical truth?
Category: Philosophy
Status: Queued
Mathematical statements seem to be true independent of any physical fact, yet our access to mathematical objects is unclear. Platonism, formalism, intuitionism and structuralism offer competing accounts.
Each view faces serious challenges: Platonism has an epistemic problem, formalism cannot explain mathematical applicability, and constructive views must give up significant parts of classical mathematics.
