Can we map the human connectome?

Category: Neuroscience

Status: Queued

The 'connectome' is the complete wiring diagram of the nervous system. The fly brain connectome has now been mapped, and the mouse is in progress. The human brain, with about 86 billion neurons and 100 trillion synapses, is far beyond current technology.

Even with a complete static map, understanding plasticity, neuromodulation and the dynamics that produce cognition would remain open.
