Can artificial photosynthesis power industry?
Category: Chemistry
Status: Queued
Plants convert sunlight, water and CO2 into fuel with overall efficiency around 1%. An artificial system that did the same at 10%+ efficiency, with cheap and stable materials, would enable carbon-neutral synthesis of fuels and chemicals.
Solar water splitting and CO2 reduction catalysts have been demonstrated at lab scale, but none combine the necessary efficiency, stability and cost for industrial use.
