Can we economically recycle wind turbine blades?
Category: Engineering
Status: Queued
Wind turbine blades are made of fibre-reinforced composites that are difficult to disassemble. Decommissioned blades are increasingly stockpiled or landfilled.
Pyrolysis, solvolysis, mechanical recycling and thermoplastic-based new blade designs are all being explored. None has reached cost-parity with virgin composites.
