Can solar geoengineering work safely?

Stratospheric aerosol injection would cool the planet by scattering sunlight. The physics is well understood (Pinatubo provides a natural analogue). Whether it can be deployed safely and equitably — without termination shock or regional climate disruption — is unresolved.

Governance, monitoring, and the risk of unilateral deployment are as challenging as the science.
