Is there an undiscovered class of cosmic transients?

Category: Astronomy

Status: Queued

Optical and radio sky surveys (ZTF, LSST, CHIME) continually discover new transient phenomena: kilonovae, fast blue optical transients, luminous fast coolers. The taxonomy is incomplete.

Rapidly growing data volumes from Rubin Observatory and SKA are expected to reveal new classes, with classification a computational challenge in its own right.
